Childfree adults these days are constantly hounded by their parents to produce a grandchild. As if it were the Middle Ages, where offspring dictated the success of the family farm, prospective grandparents cannot satiate their desire to further their lineage through the loins of their own kids. 

Produce an heir… OR ELSE.

    So the more you pressure your offspring to reproduce, the more likely they are to resent you for it. Since one of the main reasons most people decide to avoid childrearing is because they don't want to perpetuate family toxicity, perhaps a constant reminder of that family drama isn't the best tactic for persuasion. This mother-in-law, a problematic, cruel woman who always disapproved of her ‘impoverished' son-in-law, learned the hard way that sheer force wasn't going to convince her daughter to have a kid—even after 47 years of pushing, she still hasn't realized that her SIL had a vasectomy right after the wedding. Oops…

My wife and her sister started planning a secret birthday party for her. They tried to book her favourite restaurant and were told it had already been booked by... MiL. She thought 'nobody will arrange anything for me so I'll have to do it myself'. Such a martyr.
